New Music Weekly magazine held their awards
show in Los Angeles
this weekend, Saturday (June 26th) at the
famous Key Club theatre to a capacity crowd. Artists, record labels and
radio were all in "full force" for a spectacular three-hour event
that brought in some major new talent as well as top-notch celebrities.
Clay Aiken won for "Top40 Male Artist of the Year", while Tim
McGraw took the honor for favorite "crossover" artist. Scarlett
Pomers from the hit television series, "Reba" (WB Network) was
there to present and to accept an award on behalf of Reba McEntire for
"Favorite Female Country Artist".
Independent artists were also represented as Los Angeles based and
GRAMMY Nominated Debbie Hennessey won for "AC Female Artist of the
Year". Radio stations from all over the country were present to take
home top honors. Live performances included AC nominee turned
"winner", Bruce Sudano who thrilled the capacity audience with
his "Le Imagine Café" and new Country star Kelly Lang who also
performed to a strong ovation her current hit, "Single Mother".
A new and young recording artist Monet made her
debut & Kelly Moneymaker along with husband Peter Reckell (Days Of Our
Lives) were on hand as presenters. Kelly who is one of the members of the
vocal group Expose performed her "Can’t Live Without Your
Love" single and not only captivated the crowd, but also picked up the
"AC Single Of the Year".
There were plenty of celebrity presenters and
stars on hand including Corey Feldman who had some classic moments during
an "American Idol" segment. He was paired with eight year old
Carolyn Ruffino who was not in the least star struck. The bit ended with
Corey asking, "do you know who I am", to which the young lady
simply replied, "nope"!
Ronn Moss who stars on the "Bold and the
Beautiful" (CBS) came along with Player band mate Peter Becket to
present the Top40 Music Director award to a very stunned KVTI (Tacoma, WA)
music director Beth Valiant. Roger Rose (VH1) and Christine
Theard from the international group Luminous presented an award to Randy
Hammer and KVHT (Yankton, SD) for "Top40 Station Of the Year".
Industry veteran Billy Vera was also on hand as
a presenter along with actress Stacy Randall. Billy was there to accept the
Newman Award for the lifetime achievement of his good friend Ray Charles.
Buck McCoy handled most of the Country awards coming off as a "solid
pro" bringing his zany humor into the mix. He worked extremely well
with the beautiful VJ, actress Marisa Petroro and our DJ Lo-Jack from the
band Generous Juice.
Alan Young took home a well deserved award for
Country promotion while Hollywood Records
picked up the "Top40 Record Promotion" award. A special
"Literary Award" went to the well deserving Chuck Dauphin who
almost missed making it to the stage due to simply taking a restroom break
at the wrong time.
Country star Anthony Michael James picked up favorite
"County Single of the Year" for his
heartfelt "Old Friends" and Billy Pierson made it to the stage to
pick up his award for "Best Country Male Artist" beating out some
of the biggest names in the business. The event culminated with an all-star
jam that had the audience "on their feet". A compete list of the
winners is as follows.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at the 2005 NMW Awards!
